Made another return trip to the colonial site Reid and I have been hunting recently. Thought I had a good one when I unearthed a large silver disk and saw what looked like a leaf design. Was holding my breathe for a Mass. tree coin (the site dates to 1650), but it was only a barber quarter. A bit of a disappointent, but any silver is a good thing. Other than that just a few odds and ends. Still had a good time in spite of the heat. Might be the last field hunt of the season as planting is nearly done at all my usual sites.

great assortment of buttons and relics. i'd take an outing like that any day of the week.
congratulations on not throwing that barber across the field in disgust.
she's mighty pretty.

If you're sites where in New England there's no doubt you'd be hitting some Mass silver. But even in VA if you can keep digging those types of numbers I wouldn't be surprised if one pops up. That's one thing that's kind or a drag for me having all of our pre 1750 French sites pounded, and it being so hard to find new ones... because it was the best chance I would have at one. But I'll never let the dream die!

I know of a couple tree coins that have been found around here. And I found a cut piece from a NOE 11 variety pine tree shilling last year (see pic). Since there was so much commerce taking place on the waterways down here, no telling what might show up. A whole tree coin and colonial gold are my 2 top priorities right now. Might not ever find either of those, but I'm going to knock myself out trying.

Even that cut piece would have me over the moon! and I'm sure you must have been quite excited to see it wasn't Spanish.

Bill, I am now glad to see you have decided to post on Today's Finds! :headbang: Most people on here have no idea that you are a Colonial bloodhound! They will soon find out! :notworthy:

Keep searching for that other Mass coin. It is there and will be found by you!
