i was wondering if any body knew anything about them.the reason i ask is because while digging a signal along the bank of a river (it was easy to dig sandy and at one time was probably where the river was positioned)i found alot of old mussel shel remnants and now after seeing an article about the fresh water pearls beleive i might of seen a few mixed in .was just wondering if it would be worth screening the area to try to find any are they valuable?

I have gathered 'pearls' for several years, most of the ones
that are ' not round' are not worth a lot.
You may have stumbled on to an old Indian encampment, where they ate the mussels & discarded the shells.
If a pearl lay in the ground for long periods, it would probably lost it's 'luster'.
I have found them in 'old shells' in the mud, & they turned 'dull'.

Ever since I found a tiny pearl in some mussels I was eating, I've been thinking about this, too.

And does finding a pearl in food count as finding treasure? hahaha. ::)
