French riffle butt plate?

I found this a few months ago. I think it is a butt plate off of a French or Spanish riffle.
Any one out there have a clue?

What makes you think that it is?

The area I found it in is about 1 mile west of Fort Los Adaes on private land in an area where I think the chicken war took place.
The Item in question is made of brass and has a slight bevel on the back side. It also has two holes for mounting screws.

It seems to have the proper curve. You may have a beautiful find. I havent found yours but here are some examples of fancy musket butt plates.
