I did a little research on this button and found a great thread here from years back. I found it in the same area I've found buttons from the colonial period all the way through the late 1800's. How in the heck did it find its way to Central Virginia?!? The area I'm in has known French Huguenot settlement's. Coincidence?? Either way, I'm ecstatic right now!

Very nice and historic.

You have a Phoenix button that was made for the armed forces of Haiti between 1811 and 1820. They were never issued as the Haitian ruler, Christophe I, committed suicide during a coupe. The buttons were sold as surplus and turn up on 19th century sites on the East Coast and elsewhere. Great find! Lots of history with that button.

Great display piece... Welcome

Now that's an interesting history!
