I found this shield-shaped pin today at a colonial home site. There was a village there from circa 1760 through 1830. Prior to that there was a fort that served as a training ground for the French-Indian War; the fort was very close to where I found the pin.

Based on the history of the site the pin is either pre-1830s or from the 1960s forward. It looks period to me & there is still a little bit of silver plating on it. Ideas?

Where exactly on the saddle did this go?

I was wondering the same thing-maybe someone can post a picture (drawing) of a saddle with the shield on it?

FINE SADDLE SHEILD FIND .

Could it possibly be an escutcheon from the wrist of a musket? From what I have seen most saddle shields have two posts on the back whereas mine only has one. There is a slight amount of lateral curvature as seen in the picture.
