Re: Freeman Run, below Austin Dam (Updated pics from sept 2011)
I just spent a week in the Freeman Run area below Austin, Costello and Wharton. It had been raining relentlessly, the whole time I was there, from the hurricane and tropical storm that stalled the weather system right over north-central Pa. for a week.
I was looking for a specific access point to an area I believe where a lot of the remains of the Austin dam flood may have settled. Needless to say, the creeks were a bit high and fast for crossing and the only bridge I found had a gated access only on it.
I seriously doubt I'll take a second shot at this. Weeds too high for me and a lot of the areas are private property with camp sites scattered the length of that valley.
I did hear an elk and some coyotes about 9 in the morning...that was pretty cool.
Here's some pics of the valley below Costello, where I think would be the place that all the goodies may have ended up. You Potter County folks should recognize this area.
