We delivered some eggs to some good friends of ours who are in the proscess of renovating
their house . They mentioned that they had a free pile they were gettin together - in the garage - on the left - go help yourself .
We double-checked with her " This decantor box is free ?" ...... "Yes , it's missing all the little glasses , and 2 of the bottles were broke many years ago ."

We filled the car with stuff - she paid us for the eggs .

Any idea on how old it is ? , country of origin ? , We would some day like to replace the missing pieces - make it complete .

I keep checking back here to see what has been found out because I think it is beautiful and I have never seen one. Congrats on the very neat find....can't believe that would be in a free pile! too cool!

Are there any markings on the bottoms of the decanters? If so, that could help determine the date range.
They just have a single golden number , this one has a 5 . The bottom of the stopper has a 5 also . The other bottle and stopper has a 1 on the bottom , the 2 other stoppers are marked 2 and 4

OMG! OMG! OMG!!!! I got so excited when I saw the photos that I can't remember the name of it. Years ago I sold one that was not nearly as nice for about $400 Yours looks older & fancier. I'm going to do a little research for you & let you know what I find. It's gorgeous!

Forgot to add : don not do any repairs or touch ups to it. That looks like an original laquered finish with inlays. Awesome. Clean it only with a damp soft cloth.

I'm back..... it's called a "tantalus". The little cut outs on the wood strips on either side of the bottles held stemware. Not sure of the country of origin but it would date to the 1800s. They can run from $400 to $1,500 even with pieces missing. The higher priced ones have gold gilt and mother of pearl inlays.

Look for a makers mark somewhere on the box. Wow! You did good!!!!!
