Fred Flintstones' Carburetor?

Had to use that title ;D. This "artifact" is made from stone, and was excavated at a construction site in Idaho (location might help identify). It is about 3.5 inches wide, 2.5 inches tall, and 2 inches deep. I thought it might be used for burning something, but there is no evidence of heat or residue. The front has an area with square shaped holes, indented into the face. The inside is clearly chiseled. The bottom has two round holes, and 3 tally marks. Could be alabaster, marble? Any ideas anyone?

Re: Fred Flintstones' Carburetor?

Three hatch marks leads me to believe it's some type of ceremonial blood letting receptacle. You know, slice somebody's finger and let the blood drip into the bowl. UGH.

Actually, with the holes cut into the side, I, too, would guess it has something to do with incense or some other material for burning. Maybe to keep the mosquitoes away!!! Take it to a rock shop and ask what type of stone it is first, then you'd know if it is local material or something brought in from another area. Then maybe ask a museum about it.

Weird stuff being dug up by treasure hunters all the time, what a hoot!!!

It looks like it could have been from the Inuit Indian ,possibly brought into Idaho as a trade item from Canada
