I've probably mentioned this at some point, but since I've been a sporadic poster the last few years I'll do it again. Our church bought a bar. It was a source of drugs, prostitution and yes, alcohol and neighborhood leaders encouraged us to buy it and shut it down. So we did. We cleaned it out a few years ago, and notice went out yesterday that help was needed to put down a new subfloor. Since I have lots of flexibility in my life (and I know where to look for treasure), I participated in doing that today. Working with one other guy, a church employee who was occasionally called away, I had the chance to examine the bowels of this old building once more. I didn't come away empty-handed! One could argue about the best find of the day, and I'll have to favor Baby Ruth. Or, I should say, two of them. I noticed that two tin signs were nailed up to cover up blemishes on the wood wall. Fortunately, they were nailed up backwards, preserving the finish. The one I'm showing is the better of the two, and so far I'm having trouble finding any on the Internet. The other good find of the day, really well hidden where only a person like myself would think to look, was this 1952D Franklin Half. I hope he'll clean up better than he looks right now; I've been looking for either a Franklin or another Merc. I have one of each designated for twins I know if I can find a matching coin. Don't want to hand over an ugly Ben as a birthday gift! Did I mention that these Baby Ruths are 10x28 inches?
