I just got a call from a guy at one of those gold distributors that told me that it was just announced that the US is discontinuing its fractional gold eagle program. I took this as some sort of high pressure sales technique as I thought there was an announcement a couple of years ago about fractionals for their collectible/proof program being discontinued but not the bullion coins.
Has there been any recent news on this front? He acted like this was just announced and that I'd better act fast before they were all gone (yeah, we've all heard that before). He wanted to sell me graded 1/10 ounce Gold Eagles for $400 each. I didn't buy into it but I'd like to know if something has actually changed related to their bullion coins or if this guy was feeding me the biggest bunch of bull this side of Texas.
