Well a friend gave me a nice camera with telephoto lens and I can get much better pics of my fox friends than with my iphone camera. This is Blackie, my resident papa fox, I named him Blackie due to his very black fur on his back. He is quite old for a wild fox, has been coming around for at least five years, and he is looking a little scruffy since shedding his winter coat. He is a very good papa, he has babies back in the woods and will make 8-10 trips back and forth to the den with chicken drumsticks and pork trimmings I put out for them. The vixen hasn't been around for over a week and papa won't bring the babies around until they are a little older. In the photo of him on the log he is about 70-80 feet away and the one looking up at me he is about 25-30 feet away. Even though scruffy looking he is still cute!!

Fox are such cool critters...:occasion14:

One note of caution..you are providing the groceries for dad, which he
in turn takes to the kits. It is most important for their survival that dad
teaches the little ones how to hunt and forage for their own food. If they
don't learn those vital skills, they may not survive when dad/mom
pushes them out to find their own territory and survive on their own.

I have raccoons visiting nightly, but when the kids are old enough for
the mothers to take them out I won't put out food. That way the little
ones have to learn to forage for themselves or go hungry. (Although I
will toss the kids a few treats now and then just because they're so damn cute..)

Black has seen a lot of miles, and is lucky to have you as a friend.
We were just commenting on the fact the chickens haven't been alarming this spring.
Seems pretty quiet and we were wondering if our resident Foxes didn't make the winter.

Thanks again for sharing this beautiful raccoon picture

Had an active den repeated years in sight of the main road.
The vixen was road killed by a vehicle leaving the male solo.

I dragged a road hit deer into the woods ...Oh , a bit over a quarter mile from the den back here.
Heard the male calling the pups a couple different nights.
Around the time they finished the deer , they were not noticed again.

Pups making it that far was good sign.
Prior litters we'd see them try to follow the folks in the evening when they headed out to hunt.
At first they'd only go a little ways.
