Found while mowing today

This was in a bare spot. The red swirl caught my eye. I’m guessing the 2” downpour washed it up. I’m sure it’s broken, has no value, etc. It is destined for the rock garden. I just thought it was odd. Possibly piece of a large broken marble. It sure looks like it would have been spherical at one time. The small hole in the inside appears to be a flaw. If it was a marble, it would have been 2+“ in diameter. I’m going to dig around in the area, see if there are more.

It had a small hollow void in the center. I guess it could have been. The lightning rod balls I’m familiar with were larger diameter and MUCH thinner material. Thanks

Yeah I agree with you on that, I've never seen 1 as thick as the piece you found mowing.
 

Another possibility is a piece of an old gear shift knob from a car or piece of machinery. Here's a link to different types of fancy knobs. Some are swirly glass types.
