Found this trigger guard in southern Minnesota near a river. I think it may be from the 1700’s. Just wondering if anybody knows more about it

That was from a very ornate rifle...the flower carving and the acorn motif is super nice!
It's been my experience that the British made guns weren't as decorated as the earlier French muskets(used for trade) of the 1700s..I cant say where yours is from but I would research French designs of the 1700s first..you never know
Nice find..I like it!

Very nice. As soon as I saw the engraving and seen it was brass I knew it was old. 1700s.

This is some info I found on a brass pistol guard. Maybe this is somewhere to start looking.

Ketland & Co

Brass Barrel English Flintlock Pistol with Ketland Lock and London Barrel Marking

.60 caliber, 9-inch smoothbore barrel engraved LONDON and with British proofmarks; border-engraved lock marked KETLAND/& CO. Brass mounted walnut stock; acorn finial to trigger guard.

You certainly appear to be correct. Good job!

A rifle wouldn't have that style of trigger guard, probably from a fowling piece. I'd say 1700's would be correct.

Congrat's on a very nice Save.
