Went out for a hike with family this morning around our farm, and we came across this structure. It looks like the right side of the picture has been washed out. Directly down the hill from this we found what the Sheriff is 95% sure was a human vertebra. It was an extremely old one if the testing they are doing returns that it is in fact human. His opinion was that we have stumbled on a very old grave. According to him there is no way that the stones were a natural rock face and look to be man made to him. I have no intentions of digging up a grave if that is what we have found. We have found many Native American artifacts on our property in recent years including a spearhead and a hand held tool of sorts made from stone. I am just wanting an opinion on the rocks that are stacked up on eachother. It looks like there were rocks stacked on both sides and then a big stone laid over. over the years they have become disheveled. Any opinions would be great 8-) stone tool 3.jpgstone tool 2.jpgstone tool.jpgrock face.jpgnative.jpg

Welcome to Tnet from Toronto newhistory! :hello:

I'm no expert when it comes to Native American artifacts and burials, but it looks like you may have found something.
It almost looks like an ancient burial cairn? :icon_scratch:

"A cairn is a man-made pile of stones. The word cairn comes from the Scottish Gaelic: càrn. Cairns have been and are used for a broad variety of purposes, from prehistoric times to the present. In modern times, cairns are often erected as landmarks, a use they have had since ancient times."

I might suggest you also post your question/pics here as well... North American Indian Artifacts

I don’t see any artifacts. Stones very well could be naturally fractured rock. Curious as to what the white thing is in top right of your last picture?

Can we see more pics of the supposed burial vault. To me it looks like many things, but in order for me to say with certainty if the rocks were cut stone, or naturally fractured we’d need close up pics, and then a few shots further away from the outcropping. I’ve seen many of these types of sites, some are old now dried up springs, possible burial sites, sacred Indian site. I’ve got a place similar to this on top of my grandmas mountain that gives someone a 360 degree view of everything around them, including the large field behind it, mountainside in front of it, and surrounding forest. The one up there is built where you come in through a narrow hole, has two or three small holes in it to look through, and the top could have been covered at one time concealing the folks inside from being seen, or protected from the elements

Looks like beautiful country - but everything in photos looks completely natural to me.
