Found this a few hours ago, at what I believe is a late 1700s site. Found a few dandy buttons, ox knobs, pewter spoon last weekend and a roached copper + this today.

This site appears on my oldest accurate maps (1856) and I believe was gone between 1940-1950.

Any thoughts? It seems like a lead material as it is pretty bendable in my hands but doesn't feel like it'll break easily.

Thanks!!

Kinda reminds me of a grill for an old time stove, or a Coleman type. Sits loosely on top. Wild guess.

Chances are, the shapes along the perimeter were at one time, round.
...with two of them missing.

I was wondering that as well but found it strange that all sides were bent the same way.

Thanks for all the responses all!!

Edit:

It seems really difficult to to bend them back to a round shape so it makes me wonder if they really ever were round.
