Found this the other day, no mark but US

Hey hey fellow treasure hunters. Found this the other day while searching an old military spot. The site goes back as far as the early 1800's. Its rather heavy and not rusted at all, but not sure what its made of even. Any idea's thanks for looking, and happy hunting folks.

will a magnet stick to it ? --if so its iron / steel ---if not its non farrous and thus most likely---brass or bronze or maybe copper---whats the back look like? and are there other markings of any kind on it ? Ivan

I would have to agree with mrs.oroblanco, I have seen a few, the "U" and "S" appear to be a little different. Could be that these were made by several different manufacturers and could explain the difference.

I love the lettering on the piece.Very much more attractive than the usual lettering.
