I found this in my gravel 2- 4 inch depth, in an area that has had erosion. This property was owned by Southern Pacific rail road 1903 and I have found a rail spike and date nail within 10 ft of this item.

There are grooves spaced as though it fit on or into something else? It registered as iron and is almost 3" in length.

Thanks for looking.

Sort of resembles a boat or dock cleat, but no attachment points (even though they would be roughly where the 2 small dimples are), plus it's a bit small at 3". I got nothing, hopefully someone can identify it.

I was gonna say the same thing, looks a lot like a sailing cleat, although on the small side. Are you far from the coast? Maybe a boat was out there at some point in time.

My guess is its a from the inside of a early form of a suspension clamp like this modern one here:

Coins are mixed 1990's and copper 1 cents. I find at least 1 cent- every time I hunt in my gravel. Oldest was 1940 wheatie. Sometimes I don't even need my MD to find one. I wonder what the previous people did with their cents? Just tossed them out???? I don't find too many nickels, dime or quarters. (only a couple)

I am 90 miles inland, but may have came in with the gravel? The irrigation district brought it in a couple years ago, since we allow them to use our road.

AARC,

Thanks for the reply-I knew what the snap hook was, I am talking about the small bar (with indents) in the first and the bar in this picture, they look the same.

A "toggle"? Toggle ropes will show some ideas..here's one though other quick disconnects are possible.
