Gypsy Heart is probably right! ( And I would guess out of the bottom of an old, round wood stove)

My old coal furnace had a similar looking shaker grate...but a little larger than your piece. :icon_salut:

thanks for all the replies! i should note that i found this underneath a few rocks alongside one wall of the foundation. i guess it makes sense that it was part of some sort of furnace or stove.

couldn't find much of a match but I thought a very old and rusted much larger sprocket than this could produce a piece like yours.
