I found this little thing in a tiny creek outside Charleston SC. We’ve also found several points in the same creek close by. The last round grooved item I found and posted was a fossilized bivalve cast but this looks a bit different and was found with other artifacts so I figured I’d post and ask. Thanks for any input you may have, even bad news! 8797C3AB-A92C-471B-9501-9317716B4FA0.webpB2FC2EC1-F18A-4867-ADEF-132121CDFBB7.webp

Its an atlatl weight. A good one at that. Is that a tooth on the right?

My first thought was atlatl weight but could also be a net weight being found near a creek.

Given the size, I would not think it’s a banner stone. A net weight is more likely. JMO. Cool find though.

I agree. In my haste and small ph screen earlier I thought it was tubular wit a groove length wise. Now I see that it is round with classic net weight or bolo groove. The little cross drilling is interesting. But I retract my atlatl weight diagnosis.

GREAT find on that atlatl weight !
On the right is a fossilized Snaggletooth Shark's tooth.
