I've heard 2 opinions of what that might be. My dad found one very similar in a cave about 40 years ago. It could be part of a grooved axe or a hoe made by the American Indians hundreds or thousands of years ago.

That would be neat. Someone else dug ie up I guess and used it for a yard decoration. Saved me the trouble. Are you serious?

HH,

Judging by the colors...it looks to be Indian pottery (a large broken piece). I could be wrong, but I'm judging it by the pottery shards I have found.

Arrow shaft straightener? Or fire maker? Or gorget? The hole in the thing has a function, but what that function was would be hard to say because the item is apparently broken.

Yes it is broken and I went through the entire rock pile as I moved it and then went through the soil underneath the rock pile and did not find the rest of it. I just wish I knew what it is and where it came from.

Definately not a grooved axe. It would not hold up being used since it is so thin. I am tempted to say it's just a rock worn by weather, but that round hole looks to well formed.

I would guess some kind of Indian artifact too. Don't think it's an arrow straightener though as the hole looks to be about an inch. That would be one fat arrow.

I probably should have put a picture of the other side of this rock on here. It is completely flat on the other side and smooth. I dont know if you can tell from this picture the top is actually kind of bowed. HELP???
