Maybe a knob for a shifter/blade, on a lawn tractor ???
I'm not sure what I would do with it, but I would probably keep it... ;D
Good luck, & Happy hunting~

Its kinda small for a lawn mower knob. I say it is from a lamp or outdoor light fixture.

I am for sure going to keepit. I have a little treasure box that I am keep going to keep all my finds in. my reference to junk is meant that it isnt worth anything so I am thinking about trying to clean up... if i ruin it no big deal.. also no details to wear off either.

I am thinking of buying some never dull and trying it.... anybody have any suggestions.

I could see the lamp fixture part........ just like the modern ones I have.
You have to screw off the ball on the top to change the bulb.

It looks like the end off a gadget of the Victorian era, its hard to explain but here goes.
The women had long dresses and to walk in long grass or a muddy sidewalk would hitch their dress up and put the hem into a clamp type of thing attached to their belt or mid drift. I dug one up years ago and it is missing one ball......... ::) If I can locate it I will post a pic and yes it is made of brass

HEY , I GO WITH THE LAMP IDEA, AS A MATE COLLECTS OLD KERO LAMPS.I SHOWED HER THE PICTURE OF THE BALL AND WHEN LOOKED A COUPLE KERO LAMPS AND THE BALL LOOKS THE SAME AS THE BALLS ON THE TOP COVER PLATES OF THE LAMPS. SHE SUGGESTS THAT IT WAS THREADED TO GAIN ACCESS FOR CLEANING. THE LAMP THAT THE BALL CAME OFF WAS ABOUT 1940S KERO LAMP. 2 DIFFERENT TYPES ON COPPER THE OTHER PLATED
