🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Found this brass valve with swastika stamp and an R on the other side. Does anyone know why it has a R on the opposite side? No other markings.

The swastika symbol is common in esoteric tantric traditions of Buddhism, along with Hinduism, where it is found with chakra theories and other meditative aids. The clockwise symbol is more common, and contrasts with the counterclockwise version common in the Tibetan Bon tradition and locally called yungdrung.

In India the swastika continues to be the most widely used auspicious symbol of Hindus, Jainas, and Buddhists. Among the Jainas it is the emblem of their seventh Tirthankara (saint) and is also said to remind the worshiper by its four arms of the four possible places of rebirth—in the animal or plant world, in hell, on Earth, or in the spirit world.

In Scandinavia the left-hand swastika was the sign for the god Thor’s hammer.

There was a thread about those valves a while back. If I remember right, they were made by an American company in the 20s before the Nazis.

Here's a link to an older post in them, and on page 3 at the bottom there are two links to older posts.

It was predominantly in various Eurasian areas and a few in Africa.
Dates back 12,000 thousand years ago.
It was also used in ancient Greece and Rome, and can be found in the remains of the ancient city of Troy, which existed 4,000 years ago.
