It was under the black sand.

Found at a river.
 

Knowing where they were found might help.

Nice work and welcome digger. Are they gemstones or metal with a red cast. If you think they're metal don't handle them with your bare fingers. A red cast on gold ore can be an indication of the presence of arsenic. If you attempt to smelt it, do it outside with a respirator (not dust mask) that is capable of filtering out heavy metals and use flux to float off the impurities. See your welding supply store or search the Mine Safety Appliance website.
