This metal thing is very heavy for its size but seems to be harder than lead. (Brass maybe?) It has some damage up top but it looks like there was a hole through it at one point. I believe this cellar hole dates to the early 1800's. Also dug a couple axe heads today. There is so much iron in the ground that it is very slow going. I have a couple of ideas as to what it could be but I want to see what you guys think!

It's about the same all the way around. No flat side at all and definitely not iron or steel. To be honest, with the hole on top and the shape and weight, the first thing I thought of was a plumb Bob.

Here are a couple more pics. If you can't tell from the pictures, it looks like it has/had 4 equal sides that taper to a point at one end and flattened out a bit at the other end to make a spot for a hole.

It does look just like a soldering iron tip but it definitely had a hole through it on the one end so I'm not sure how the rod would attach to it. Thanks for the reply!

Actually, the one on end in the photo you posted has a hole in it! I think you solved it. Thanks! DCmatt nailed this one!

Yep.

Here's a side on view better showing how some did have a cross-wise hole.
