Found these before--Still don't know what they are!

I found this circular brass object today along with some other items. I have found these before, but they have always been single halves unlike this one, which is still joined together by an iron pin. It reminds me of a handcuff, but there is no chain attached for a set of two of them. It also reminds me of a very old and heavy version of a shower curtain ring. It was definitely made to come unhinged and open up. If anyone here has any ideas, I would love to hear from you. If not, I will later post it on "What is it?". Thanks so much!

Interesting find! I believe "Erving" has it right...bull ring.

Thanks so much to all who replied! Bull ring seems to be the answer! I really appreciate all of you helping me out!

Yep, Bull nose ring got one somewhere in my stuff...HH,....Bonz

I've found several of those as well. My first thought was in hitching, or rein hardware. I'd not considered a nose ring for bulls! I pray no one ever puts one of those on me :(

What is the purpose of the bull nose ring?

To let the Bull know he is married---------------------NOT.
Actually to tie a rope to and lead him around or tie him up.

Quote---In the past, nose rings were a method of controlling bulls because they were dangerous to the handlers. As time went on, it became customary to only use nose rings on bulls led by a halter. Nose rings are unnecessary for bulls that are not led.

You can lead a bull down to his knees with very little effort with a bull ring. While it is not painful to the bull to wear it, it is extremely "motivating" when tugged on.

I’ve never heard of this before, cool find OP.

The things you learn on Tnet.

I wonna meet the guy that did the peircing on that bulls nose, god rest his soul
