Re: Found Something I cannot Identify

Well offhand I'd say it's commerative token. Washington was a general in 1777 and Washington DC was sparcely populated farm and swamp land and did not become the District of Columbia until a bill was passed in 1790 authorizing establishment of a "Federal City" for the nation's capital.

There were a bunch of Washington coins and tokens made from 1783 to 1795 (and again in 1899 and 1932 ;)).

If it's in great shape, like you say, I'm guessing it's brass rather than copper. Try putting a magnet on it...does it stick? If so, it would be brass rather than copper. Does it appear to have had a post (loop or pin) on the reverse at one time? If not, I'd agree with Charlie that it's probably a token of some sort. Looks cool. Congrats.

It's a button from a pair of Washington Dee-Cee overalls.

PBK, you are the greatest. (I don't mean that in the Jackie Gleason context, but in the ID context.)

Aw, gawrsh, TT! ::)

(Some folks would say it's more in the Ed Norton context.)

Overall, this one turned out OK, though, I guess.
