I was going to go back to a local park I hit last week after coming back with plenty of coins but only being found about 4.0" or less deep, I wasn't as satisfied with the results. So, I decided to rework my detecting strategy & make some machine adjustments. ..
I slowed my swing speed a bit, increased sensitivity & lessened discrimination, dug all signals, & read alot of posts this past week just to get myself in the detecting frame of mind. Instead of hitting the same park, I saw another spot that looked promising & I found some goodies in about 1 1/2 hours of detecting. I found a 1952 quarter at 5.5" & the 1947 dime at 6.5". Also found a 1943 P nickel at 5.5". also a few pennies & another nickel. Quality is much better than quantity (In most cases) & I accomplished what I set out to do, find deeper coins.
I got a lot of great info here & will be setting up a charter membership shortly. I get psyched reading about all those lucrative finds that if my wife let me, I would go out tonight in the dark with a flashlight. Thanks for the great site...

Nice looking silver you found there. That's the way to do it, play with it untill you like what it does. Way to go!

Yup, I need to do the same type of tweaking, just have to get it right, those were quite deep, nice job!

Sweet finds, it is amazing what knowing your machine and using a little patience will do. I still remember 10 years ago detecting an old park when an older couple showed up to hunt. It looked like they were in a race! They were finding surface clad and I guess they were happy with that. It is funny because she came up to right as I slipped my first V nickle, a 1912-d in my pocket. She asked how I was doing and I said OK, when inside I was jumping for joy. She pulled out a load of clad and said she was doing great as she shoved it in my face. I was more than happy at that moment to let her have all the clad she wanted. Way to go, I look forward to more of your posts in the future...Ryan

Thanks Ryan, This reminds me of when you hear a park is hunted out, it may be just the first few inches from hunters like them. I would would rather have the deeper & more valuable items like yourself. I get the feeling that those people 10 years ago would of said after going back their a few times that the place was hunted out, but they are missing the real excitement of a great find which is your gain, nice story..

sounds like your getting there on the adjustments ! nice finds and congrats ;)

Great finds, way to go on retuning your detector. Glad this forum is of some help to you.
