hit the same spot as yesterday for about 45 minutes today and found this wierd thingamajig doodad (looks like some sort of part of a level) its heavy and about the same size of a nickel and this 1980 canadian nickel, the nickel was at about 5-6 inches and when it popped out it was all bright and shiney, whats up w that?, i see the composition is mostly nickel but i thought that itd be all brown and nasty like american clad?? boy lately im getting stumped with newb like questions, oh well, thought it was silver:BangHead: SAM_2889.JPGSAM_2890.JPGSAM_2891.JPGSAM_2892.JPG

The reason that U.S. nickels (and clad) turn dark in the soil is because of the copper content. Pure nickel doesn't do that. If that Canadian nickel had been 1982 - 2000, it would have turned dark since they changed their composition to match the U.S., just on the nickel.
