Detected an old town dump today. I have searched this place many times and so have many others. I find something descent every once in awhile and it's close to home, so I keep trying.
Nothing very good today, but I did find the largest spoon I've ever found! It's big, heavy and solid brass.
The brass tag is kinda cool and fancy, but somebody wasn't very good with number punches.
Also got a nice mother-of-pearl button, an eyeglass lens and a gold plated mystery thing. The penny is just for size reference.

I'm guessing the spoon once had a wooden handle. The square end would have been inserted in a hole down the center of the handle, like a tang chisel. The truncated end of the spoon bowl might have been rounded as usual when new and worn down by stirring and wearing against the bottom of a kettle. Or the spoon bowl tip might have been made truncated purposely for stirring.

That's a big spoon alright, well found.
The square gold wash piece looks like a photo of a gentleman in the oval. Tin photograph.

As always some interesting finds. I believe the large spoon is actually an old ice cream scoop. I remember that distinctive shape from the ones used at the local ice cream parlor.

Stay safe, good luck and keep swingin.
