Stopped by the dump today for a few minutes not really expecting to find anything. Saw someone had tossed out an old safe. The door was taken off already but I knew from experience that this didn't necessarily mean the safe was empty (I've previously found the occasional broken safe with money still inside, for example: http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/t...s-old-safe-half-century-old-money-inside.html)

Well today was a similar story to that last one I posted only this time there were a couple silver coins inside! I found them by ripping out the wooden inserts from within the safe - the coins had literally fallen through the cracks between the wooden partitions of the safe's insides. The result netted me one 90% 1964 Roosevelt Dime, one 80% 1964 Canadian dime, and one clad 1968 Canadian dime! I also took a small key I found in the safe.
:blackbeard: -Yar!

The safe after I ransacked it, sorry I didn't take a before pic, it had a beautiful interior before I destroyed it:

This is a little lock box from within the safe, note the Yale key still in the lock. The box was empty though there was a brief period of excitement during which I was expecting to find it full of cash or gold :laughing7::

Leave no stone unturned  Nice finds

Another good catch and I like the move on keeping the key... You just never know when you may need it.

Very nice silver recovery!

Now, how cool is that???? Great saves!!!

I pulled a safe out of a house this weekend, You should have seen my excitement as I went about getting that baby opened. The whole time thinking "I just hit the jackpot". Nope it was completely empty. My son laughed at me but he wouldn't have been laughing if it had been full.:laughing7: But I love that THRILL of the possibilities.

Congrats on being at the right place, at the right time... Treasure is where you find it...

That's pretty cool

Awesome! A little excitement of what could be! Good for you going the extra mile paid!

That's dedication and effort- great work finding those!!

that's pretty cool, you have a nack for finding the goods others discarded

congrats!

On your "clad" 1968 Canadian dime:

The Canadian Mint issued two compositions of the dime and quarter in 1967 and again in 1968. In 1967, there is the standard 80% silver/20% copper variety and the 50% silver/50% copper type. In mid-year 1968, they changed the quarter and dime from 50% silver/50% copper to a 99% nickel composition.

the lock box and key look to still be useful -- it alone could be worth a bit of cash to a collector

Thanks for the info! I checked into it and online it says the silver 1968 was non-magnetic while the clad 1968 was magnetic. Just tried with a magnet - it sticks so it's definitely clad. Looks like my luck ran out this time :laughing7:
