Found Several Of these at Civil War Camps Iron Bands?

Hi I have found several of these at Civil War Camps. Do any of you know what it is? I have been told everything from an axle part to a canister shot loader. I would really like to know about it. Found in Central Ky in an area occupied by both armies and there are several fire pits also. It is about 5 1/4 " in dia.

Welcome to Treasurenet,Darkroad! I live in the northwest,so don't get to hunt for CW relics. But I have looked at the various cannon projectiles used at that time,and have seen nothing similar. Your find does look like what I imagine an axle bearing would look like. It would be driven or burned into a hole in the wooden hub of a wheel,with the three projections serving to prevent it from turning in the hole. I'll take a look to see if I can find one in a wheel.

Hi Junkdigger been a lurker for a long time. I have always thought it was an axle part also but never saw one apart to verify it.
