found "round" plate

I found a perfectly round piece with a metal detector on a TN farm. The piece is approximately the size of a 5o cent coin and has "US" in block letters on the front. I have seen a lot of oval shaped "breastplates" that look similar but this one is round like a coin. What is it?

What is it made of?

Is the US raised, engraved, punched?

Anything on the back (including solder marks)?

They date to WWI period according to the other thread.

Can you put a green check next to your post if you are satisfied it is solved. There is a tutorial on how to do that in the second thread of this Forum.
