I found a square object this weekend, cleaned it up and noticed it was a die. Its heavy. I guess lead and I was wondering how to confirm its actually from a musketball? It was found near Washington Crossing, PA at a friends piece of land so I guess it could be real? Its just hard for me to believe that its really from the Revolution. Any advice on how to get it looked at or validated would be appreicated. Also, if it is real, is it rare at all? THANKS! -S-

???...not sure if its just me,but I am totally confused.....post a picture would be a huge positive start

We can validate with a picture.

Yeah hard to say W/O a pic.

but it don't sound good, when you say die, you mean mold ? certainly wouldn't be lead.

Here's what a ball mould would typically look like.

OK, so now we know what you meant. You found a lead "cube" it would be hard to say if it originated from a musket ball or not, and musket balls themselves are impossible to date as they are just lead balls made virtually the same over a long period of time.

I guess though if the lead has the white oxidation on it, it's probably been in the ground a long time.

It did have white on it ( I thought maybe it had been painted) but as I cleaned it, it came off. I will post a pic tonight. Thanks!

Any picture yet? This could be a good item. It wasn't uncommon for bored soldiers to turn musket balls into all sorts of things.

I saw the pic here the other day I thought...I have no idea how old it is, I would not have cleaned it very much. It looked like it was quite well made from what I could tell and not just some quick and dirty dice that someone hammered out. Did it have a white patina on it?
