Are you sure it is what you think it is?

Looks a little like a meteorite. In most cases, platinum comes from ultramafic rock, which is deep black, shading to green.

I've had it look at a friend of mine who specializes in gold, silver, platinum, palladium ect... and he tested and confirmed that its raw platinum and it weighs 135 grams/about 5 oz.

Get a second opinion. Looks like a meteorite to me as well.

i have already gotten like + - 6 opinions and to top it off my dad did his time in the minning industry
and he said to me that the rock is is raw platinum... does a meteorite have a magnetic field or not?

Doesn't look anything like raw platinum, which is more grey and does not rust.

If it is platinum, a nugget that size is worth twice its weight value to a collector. Good Luck!

It's not a Platinum nugget, it might be some kind of ore with lots of Pt in it, it does look like it has a crust... where in S Africa is it from did anyone know? An area might make it easier too look up

You should easily be able to grind into platinum with a file.
A file has a usual hardness of around 6½, platinum well see the link below..

Awb, who did the assaying? Pt is prob one of the hardest metals to assay. There are only probably a handful of competent Pt assayers in the US. Re check your data.

We have Pt up at Tayopa & a Pt placer at the exit of the arroyo San Luis Barborocas where it enters the Rio Mayo. This was worked in the early 1900's.

In any event, luck my friend, now go back and see it there is any more, and if so, file on the property, if possible --- THEN discuss where you found it..

He's in South Africa I wasn't asking specifically where he found it just a rough region I was trying to help him out, but I guess he thinks its real platinum and that's all that really counts lol.

I hate to reveal it to you but that is chromium. This is still expensive but not as expensive as platinum. Most people know Crome which is a material coated in chromium.

Anyone know the VALUE????

To me this looks to be iron. Platinum is relatively soft. So I don't think it's platinum. Even though the hardness is there for chromium I don't think it's that either. Has it been tested with a magnet?
