So was out today junkin and came across this at the thrift store. Caught my eye as it was not a typical abstract like painting. It is more than likely from the 1960's. Framed in that period style wood frame. It is done on stretched canvas and instead of staples to hold it together on the wood it is nailed. It is around 11x14 inches. I think it is pretty cool and for only $4.65 might have a treasure as well. Hoping someone can decipher the signature and style. Thanks gang!

Alright a tip on thrift store art work. And I was told this by a guy who deals in art. It's best to check the artist before you buy. Usually if their not dead or very well known you will pay more then they are worth.
He told me that because I would buy nice art and always lose out. So to save me money and him time appraising he said those 2 golden rules I live by now. Mostly if it doesn't come up on a search, then it's not worth it. But it's a nice painting after all.

Honestly man I buy art because I like it. And if you like it that's all that matters. But to be a art dealer you have to be really into it.

To me, the signature reads: Estrella

I really like this piece. It reminds me of old fishing lures for some reason. Was it framed? Any distinguishing markings on the back?

See the resemblance?

Hey, I just thought about this. Generally it doesn't give you what you are looking for, but did you try google, goggles? You take a pic of whatever you are trying to identify and it pulls up items that look similar (basically a really bad "face" recognition software). Might be worth a try.

I found this painting online, it has similar styles.

I picked up a painting with fish very much like yours 5-6 years ago?. I listed it as a modernist abstract fish painting arstist unknown. I only said it was my estimate to be circa mid 1960s original Mod. I also said it would be the perfect piece to have in your modern art home decor. Well someone else thought the same as I put it, and paid $180.00 for it. I paid about six and some change for the one I found. The buyer even sent a personal message telling me she got it okay and it was up on the wall and was now her most favorite piece in her living room. Art will always be in the eye of the beholder. If you do poor in the resale of art. You do not have a good eye for art. I like that painting a bunch and believe a few others will also and pay much more then you did for it. Just talk it up and do the best to attract the perfect buyer for it if you do choose to sell it. It is true that a listed and know artists will sell on signatures alone... Good luck finding those.

When I'm stuck on a signature, but convinced it's better than "student art", I go to artnet and search under the listings for the first initial until I find a name that could fit (e.g., number of letters, syllables etc). Sometimes, once you see the name, it becomes obvious and what you though said "Wilmetzior" actually say's "Washington". It's a bit of work, but if your confident in the piece, well worth the time. This is assuming you can make out the first initial -- which here appears to be "E".

I bought a serigraph (silkscreen painting) it now hangs in my office. Paid $20 at a yard sale. I could make out the sig very easily. Like he did it on purpose. C Carson

So I did a google:

C. Carson is a painter from Korea. His artwork first started to become popular in the 1980s. The value of his paintings are not that much with the Limited Edition pieces being worth a little more. On average the value would be from $35 to $125.

I see a few of mine listed on ebay right now and everybody calls them paintings. one person actually gave the size as 8 x 10 when it is a bit larger than 12 x 15.5 (you sell on ebay you have to know how to read a ruler)

There is an artist by the name of ramon estrella, it may be by him.
