Went mding with wife and kids my daughter found this metal blob first thought was melted beer can but to heavy to be aluminum it's bright silver when scratched not lead as its too hard thinking mdybe a zinc plate from an outboard ? How to tell ? Would be nice if it was silver found four quarters two dimes a penny all modern and a dog rabies tag ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1436634503.621454.jpg

I'm surprised that nobody has jumped on this thread to comment, as it seems 'Fire Nuggets' are a topical theme.

I think your find is very interesting because of the obvious parallel lines running through it; it doesn't look like examples of melted Aluminium/Aluminum cans that I've seen here on T'Net previously.

Hopefully, we will learn what it is.
Cheers, Mike

From the patina it looks to be copper.
Step 1: put in pan with Aluminum foil, baking soda, and heat. Do bubbles come off the metal itself? If yes then we need further tests. If no then it is Aluminum, lead, or tin.

Looks like a chunk of lead that melted, big weights are used at the beach for surf fishing.

I was just thinking, wheres crispin when you need him.
Put it on your counter-top and throw some acid on it. j/k.
In all seriousness though it looks like a melted chunk of something or other..

you would be surprised how copper can look. It all depends if the copper is Cu(II) or Cu(III) electron charge. Anyhow, if you are serious about getting an idea then throw it in a pan and see if bubbles come off. If you think it is lead or tin then it will melt with a standard soldering iron. Those are two great places to start in identifying the metal.

Is it heavy or light? Maybe some lead sinkers that someone threw in a fire. Lead melts at a relatively low temperature so it could be.
