Hey everyone,

I was MDing a beach near the San Juan ferry in Anacortes, WA and came across this thing. It was covered in a thick layer of rust and stones. After some work I managed to reveal the shape of it, but I still can't tell what it is. As far as I can tell there's no writing or other marks on the thing.

It appears that you have found the remailns of a flange nut commonly used to bolt timbers together. the flange helps to keep the nut from sinking into the surface of the timber too deeply when tightened.

Nice call GALT.

Used them on forestry treated timber bridges. Just don't remember the name we used. Spanner nut??

Tgentry's more than likely came from a dock or beach retaining wall.

Correct track...

Possibly a malleable iron washer used for various types of construction including dock structures.

There are numerous designs depending on the foundary and time period.
