Your find from the Revolutionary War era farm is a US military cavalry horse-bridle rosette... but it is definitely from at least a century after the end of the Revolution. Specifically, your is from a New York State National Guard unit, and the specific version you found was made during the latter-1800s into the early 20th Century. In the 1930s, except for Ceremonial purposes, the US Cavalry traded in all its horses for motorized vehicles and helicopters.
