I was snorkeling a couple of days ago off the coast of Ft Lauderdale and found these pieces partially buried in the sand. The material feels like thin brass but I'm not any good at this kind of thing. The cobra has a red stone in one eye but the other is missing. There were two pieces and I think they look like the top of a hookah but need some advice. The only real marking on the thing is a "B" on the bottom of the main piece. I think it's just junk but I figured I'd post and see what the experts think. Thanks in advance,

I guess the only mystery now is how they ended up out in the ocean!

Maybe a returning cruise ship passenger tossed it, concerned that customs may think it was some sort of drug fixer/cooker??

Yea, I was perplexed by that as well. Also, being in two pieces, is it normal to find them together? I was assuming it was thrown from the shore a short time before I found it since they were literally stuck side by side in the sand.

I could get into this treasure hunting gig... Fun stuff. I'm now in the market for a metal detector. ;)

Items are often thrown into the water as offerings to the gods. There have been other items such as Hindu mantra coins posted here found in lakes , rivers and the ocean.

Ah. Maybe I shouldn't have touched it then. Could explain the crappy weather I experienced during my week in FL. :(

Ft. Lauderdale, my old stomping grounds. The cubans always throw things like that into bodies of water as an offering to the gods. I used to find odd stuff like that all over miami, especially biscayne bay.

Thanks for posting
