that's a great dog tag. probably made like that so they can tell at a glance even at some distance if it is the correct year

Awesome find.I have found a bunch of dog tags but nothing like that one. Centre County is only a few miles from me.

YEAH ~ that is totally AWESOME!!!!

The oldest known tag for that County is 1907 (listed in Bill Bones' book US DOG LICENSE TAGS).
 

Early dog tags are worth good money--especially if you have the Earliest dog tag from an area/town/city/county. Check out the dog tag book (I think the author's last name was Bone--now that's funny in and of itself. Bill Bone maybe...).

I have an 1891 and 1892 dog tag that are the earliest from their respective townships.

I have one that is 1940 and it ins the shape of a doghouse and its the number 40! talk about multiple meanings! I'll get a picture of it.

oh I was wrong... I thought t looked like a doghouse... must of been thinking of something else... yours is only the second one I seen shaped as a number.
