I have been doing some scouting and decided to try a swimming hole near where Union troops camped during the Battle of Mobile Bay. The water from Katrina had washed away a large area of the side wall at a popular swimming hole. This area is also described as a skimish point in accounts of the march of Union troops to Spanish Fort.

I stepped down into the shallow edge of the creek and searched the wall which was about 6 feet high do to the wash out. I got a weak signal about 2 feet from the surface and about 8 inches in from the side wall.

I don't recognize it as anything from the Civil War. Any idea's?

Thanks.

My detector has 4 choices:

Iron
Al Zinc
AL Nickle
Coins

It registers as coins (yeah I know that doesn't speak well of my detector but it was a gift, LOL).

I never considered a crucible! I cleaned out the bottom some more and it apears there are layers of lead that will flake away as I pry at them. It should have had a lid. I guess I will go back and see if something else pops up.

Thanks.
