After seeing a thread from FreeBirdTim, wouldn’t you know I would find my oldest pull tab today.
I went to the fair grounds today to look for a lost neckless. I had the general area and thought it might be an easy find. I turned my discrimination down so I wouldn’t miss anything. All I found was ring pull tabs. The best of all was the fight litter tab. Never saw one like it. It wasn’t even the riveted together type.
Did a little research and found a forum where a poster said these fight litter tabs were from the late 50s and most likely a beer can.

Very nice and there's no rivet either.

Have you been watching the TV series Detectorists?

I though that the first pull tops didn't come into existence until early 1960s ? and they were not rings at first? could be wrong on that though, really need to brush up on that pulltab history:laughing7:

No, we don't get that one. Can't get the gold prospecting shows either.

Yeah, to my understanding the first pull tabs were not rings. Heres what they originally looked like.

Somewhere I have a couple I've dug. That "fight litter" tab is pretty cool as far as tab go :)
