Detector(s) used
Minelab Equinox 800 + SDC2300
Primary Interest:
Prospecting
in the village I live there is a closed bar that is called "alter Zoll" means old custom's station.

Maybe 300 yards from this I found my first seal stamp on a pasture. My Nox 800 gave me a very constant 13/14 reading.
It measures 21 x 17 mm.

Made a trial print in some candle wax

To me it reads T W J D any better suggestions?

Cool find, congrats! :occasion14:

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

The first and third letter look very similar.....maybe JWJD?

interesting design, the intaglio letters look like F W I ( or J) D to me..
and from the broken side , I can't say I've ever seen a design like that before
I hope you can get more info on it, I'll keep an eye on this one to see where it goes
cool find

Some research should pay off it can be fun. Nice find Im still looking for my first one.

that's a nice seal stamp Horst. Good luck on anymore info you may get on it. Nice!!

TWTG or JWJG not sure which.

Too bad the handle is missing but still a neat find. Congrats.

First letter is clearly "F" as it has a cross bar. FWTD would be my guess. Gary

Your right, I missed that cross-bar.
FWTD it is then.

many thanks for your input...I guess you are right with the "F" my wife says the same so to me it is FW J or T D I am more tending to a J than to a T
will try to find out if there was a person living in the area who's name could fit....

I thought so too at first, but, in looking at the first photo, I then thought it looked more like damage to the surface of the metal. It looks more shallow than the rest of the letters. Could be though since the letter were probably all produced by hand. In the wax impression in the third photo, it looks like the tail of the W goes right into making the D, and that the third letter was added afterward. Cool find! :icon_thumright:

What a terrific find. Congratulations.

The date range is late 19th C - early 20th C.
