Went out for the first time to a stream I suspected may have some artifacts and found one in about ten minutes. Its broke, but I am excited. It was found in Allegan County Michigan in a stream. Any info on what type it is would be great. Thanks DSCN3374.JPG

Sweet 1st find! I wish I still had mine I was 6 years old no telling where it is! Looks like a Big Sandy..not familiar with your area? I'm sure some of the more learned guys can help you out on the I.D! For sure the most addicting hobby ever! Just think you are the 1st person to touch it since the man who dropped/launched/stabbed/threw it 1000s of years ago! This hobby gets personal keep looking and congrats!

Thanks everybody.....

I was super excited to find one so quickly. I only had time to search about a 40 yard stretch of the creek so I hope to go back Sunday. This was found in a small creek that flows into a main river that native americans in the area traveled frequently from what I have read. I think my chances of finding some more items will only get better the closer I get to the larger river. I have never heard that this particular spot had any artifacts but I just had a hunch after looking at a topo map and knowing that an indian village was known to be within 10 miles of the stream. I can't wait to go back and see what else is out there. I hope there are more in the area.

There is more..Congrats! Look forward to seeing what else you find.

I would like to see a pic of the tip where you say it is broken at if you dont mind. It might be a Blunt which is to be flat across the top. Some points that were broke due to use were then turned into scrapers as well. Does it show flaking at the top or is it a sharp break? A pic will tell. Still a nice find either way.

Very good observation..I will post one of each for comparison ...be right back..haha

Something along these lines

ForumRunner_20120825_222227.png also I think yours is a big sandy Bolen type

Rock...it is a clean break at the top. It looks like it was done while crafting it or broke in the creek.

That's what I thought I saw. Nice one!

I was going to say the break on the tip looks like an impact fracture due to the flakes taken off going down the point from the break. Probably from when they buried into the bone of a huge beast. Great first find!
