found my first civil war medical items today

I had a pretty good day out today,I found a few odds and ends.Got a shoe buckle,lantern peace,3 Enfield bullets,one of them still contained its wood plug, which is a little more uncommon to find,for me anyway!But My find of the day would have to be the two pieces of a broken folding medical bleeder.I wish it was complete,but all the same I was happy to see them turn up,I have never found anything medical relating to the civil war before.Thanks for looking!joe

Very nice finds and I would think bleeders would be pretty rare to find. Sometimes the handles were bone and sometimes gutta percha and evidently it got separated from the blades somehow.

it is always cool digging history, the imagination can run wild when you find something new to you. sometimes we forget how things were done way back then and then you dig up the evidence... makes you wonder how anyone survived at all.

Great site you've found. Those bleeders are quite the find. Maybe more medical items left? Quite a personal connection to the carnage during those times. Come a long way in surgery and anesthesia since those were used.

Thanks!I thought they might define everything a little better then the ground.I still need to haul another one home.Man I put one in a tub of bleach to soak,and after awhile of soaking, a nest of Brown Recluse spiders started to come out of it which kind of gave me the creeps,wondering what if they came out and started crawling up my arm while carrying it through the woods They must have been deep down inside of it thank god.
