Found metal Rail looking thing

Found this strange "u " shaped rail looking thing searching an old home site in tenn.. Ha inscription H. S. Shoe on inside of rail is about 10-12inches long and about 2 inches wide and height. Is made of steel and thick on rail top end. Any suggestions? thank you ..

I'm certainly not an expert on these types of things . . . but I think this might've been used as a type of railing system. Possibly suspended from a ceiling and used with a crane winch for moving heavy objects.
