[Found metal detecting at an 1850s? farm] - Any idea what it is and it's age?

Thanks. I have no idea how old the farmhouse actually was, but I found six 1840s-1870s coins there.

It kind of looks like one of the old cow or horse bits that they used to use on the farm animals. I found something that kind of looks similar to that but it wasn't anywhere near that old

That's gotta be it, thank you!

Google searches for antique horse bit bring up a lot of similar looking items!

I think it might be a broken snaffle bit that had an attachment for curb reins. I never used four reins, so don't really know, just my swag.

short shank snaffle.jpgHere is a picture of what I'm talking about, half of a horse bit something like this one. The snaffle part is the joint in the center of the mouth piece.

That's amazingly close to what I have found, just a much newer version. Thanks for the explanation, both of you!
