While the waters around here a few years back really dropped due to lack-o-rain and so I decided to walk around a local lake and found this canoe along with another dozen or so scatterd around, this one was the most intacted one of them all, hope you can see the outline its just under the water, and found this gator skull and the rest of him also, brought the skull home!

Pictures! Supposedly there was one found here when waters dropped at the mouth of a creek heading into the bay. It was preserved in the mud and carefully removed. It was a long time ago so the old timers say. It was a dug out. Wish I would've have seen that. Hell of an artifact to find.

Cool find looks like a good spot to look.

That is a really neat find! Do you think that they might have left anything inside those canoes?

Naive canoes? Or hunting trapping homestead boat?

Would if be worthwhile to detect the dry lake bed??. You might find a bunch of fishing lures, but who knows. May find a lot of rings too, if near the swimming area.

Ron its not a swimming lake i.e. a ton of gators, its back up to normal levels now if not a little high, so where I am standing is in about 4-5 feet of water now, I found one point that day lots of pot shards and fishing lures(modern) by the gobbs. The canoes are native american and were researched by the university here. They are all still were they were found. Just under water now!

we found 2 in polk county years back just left them there, the state doesnt want them...remember when they found 80+ in Newnans lake a few years back when the drought hit?

I don't see any pics either?

For future reference, when taking picture of items just under the water, use a polarizer filter. I know many of you use cell phones and small digital cameras, but you can hold the filter in front of the lens and it works. I have even used polarized sun glasses in a pinch. The filter will remove all surface glare allowing the item under the water to be clearly seen.

How cool is that. Your water rises and lowers. My water flows fast. How neat it has lasted in the mud. Maybe this summer you can check it out again. Thanks for showing.

Centralfladigger one in the same, found these canoes months before they went out and reported the eighty, when I was there the water was still dropping and by the time they got out there lots more were present due to lower water levels! TNmountains without rain our lakes and rivers drop dramaticly.

Native canoe is awesome! Real treasures, IMO.

There is a large one, supposedly, in angle lake, near my home in king coun WA. The tribe owns it, and its preserved in the water.
