Look for makers marks, .925 or sterling and if no luck there take it by a jeweler or pawn shop and see if they will test it. There are a couple home tests you could do....matches and mustard come to mind but I don't care much for the results.
No marks that I can find...but it's still pretty dirty...I'm afraid to clean it cuz I'm not sure what to use...I'll look more closely tonight and see what I can find...
Nothing inside, thats the weird part...maybe a bad breakup and the girl threw out his pic lol...also the top looks broken so maybe thats how it was lost
