Look for makers marks, .925 or sterling and if no luck there take it by a jeweler or pawn shop and see if they will test it. There are a couple home tests you could do....matches and mustard come to mind but I don't care much for the results.

Nothing inside?

Very cool!...was it still intact?..no broken pieces that you can tell?

No marks that I can find...but it's still pretty dirty...I'm afraid to clean it cuz I'm not sure what to use...I'll look more closely tonight and see what I can find...

Nothing inside, thats the weird part...maybe a bad breakup and the girl threw out his pic lol...also the top looks broken so maybe thats how it was lost

I will post more pics later :)

Soak it in olive oil a few days, then put under some warm water with a soft bristle tooth brush lightly brush it. Should be fine. Good find!

It may be brass, silver usually comes out of the ground silver in color. It is a great find, congrats. Sub.

Nice little find there , silver or not - looks like it could be 40 - 50 years old . Could you please put up a pic or two of it opened up ? and
the other side of it - Thanks

sheesh I would kill a couple people to find something like that

I think you are right, it's probably brass....I can't find any markings on it and it was found like an inch down....oh and the top looks broken

Thank you for all the replies and suggestions :)

.maybe a bad breakup and the girl threw out his pic lol

Girls will be girls. :laughing7:I found a ring way up a hill from Tennis courts last year. Nothing, I mean nothing else around. Pretty sure she tossed it. LOL.

Lite clean, soap and water. I'm betting it's silver.
