Found in vacant apartment

Hello, I was cleaning out an apartment getting it ready for a new tenant to move into & this was in the closet. I have no idea what it is but I can't bring myself to throw it away. Its exactly 12 inches long & exactly 6 inches across. Its very very heavy, unsure of its stainless or if its chrome plated. It has 4 fluted areas running the entire length of it on the outside. There's a threaded port dead center in the middle of it with a weld all the way around it at the base. The weld looks like it was Bondo'd a little to make the weld look nice. The threaded port is about 3/4" across. There were four 14" bolts laying next to it that are threaded only 1 inch.

Anyway, if any of you guys have any ideas, I greatly appreciate it

My guess is the four bolts go in the fluted areas to clamp the cylinder to a base through a cap or lid like a clamp. It's function looks medical or experimental.

My guess is oil tank for something that would want cosmetic looks. Probably had end caps with ports. I'm pretty sure I'm wrong but that's where I'm leaning.

It's obviously missing the end pieces as the bolts would straddle the pipe in the fluted areas, but it may be something to do with microwaves or medical equipment. BTW, it looks to be copper or brass with a plating on it.

Copper or brass might indicate a plumbing or water fitting of some type wouldn't they? Seeing as how copper and brass are both used in plumbing applications for valves , pipes, and fittings?

Not necessarily as copper and brass is used extensively in microwave equipment and often resembles plumbing.

Picturing a large set screw with a handle on it.
Another adjustable pipe slips inside this one.

Kinda like a portable basketball hoop, or, a large weight machine.

thats what i'm thinking. a thumb screw in the threaded part. and it can be raised or lowered.

How about part of a boiler kit for a model steam engine ? There are some pretty high-end kits out there, not like the junk they sold in the Sears catalog.
